Stop 1 of 4
Hamdeok Beach
Jeju Port

01
North-East Coast — White Sand Beach · 30 min
Hamdeok Beach opens the Jeju Port route about 25 minutes from the terminal — the island's coast within half an hour of stepping off the ship. Its full name is Hamdeok Seoubong Beach, after the oreum standing at the eastern end: a volcanic cone that turns yellow with rapeseed in spring and deep green through summer. The sand runs about 900 m long and 120 m wide, and the shallow water reaches roughly 500 m out from shore — that far out it is still only waist-deep, which is why it reads turquoise rather than blue. Thirty minutes is a walk, not a swim. The paved promenade follows the length of the beach past black basalt outcrops and the short bridges that link them, and Jeju Olle Route 19 crosses this stretch on its way over Seoubong. On the cliffs at Seoubong's eastern end are tunnels dug by the Japanese army during the occupation. At low tide the water pulls back and wide sandbars surface — they appear in the morning and are gone by evening. The breakwater at the central plaza spells the beach's name out in large letters, and is the photograph everyone takes. Entry is free and the promenade is flat. Seoubong itself is a round trip of about an hour from the sand, so the summit is not part of this stop.

UNESCO World Natural Heritage — Lava Tube · 60 min
The route's UNESCO highlight. On the first Wednesday of the month or in heavy rain it is closed, and the tour visits Micheon Cave at Ilchul Land — another lava tube — instead.

03
UNESCO Tuff Cone — admission included, summit climb optional · 45 min
Seongsan Ilchulbong rises straight from the sea at the island's eastern tip — a 182 m tuff cone built about 5,000 years ago, when basaltic magma met shallow seawater and the steam explosions threw up a ring of ash instead of a lava cone. Geologists call this a Surtseyan eruption, and UNESCO cites Seongsan as an outstanding example of one. The crater at the top measures roughly 600 m across and 90 m deep, ringed by 99 rock peaks that islanders read as a stone crown. It holds three designations — World Natural Heritage (2007), Biosphere Reserve and Global Geopark — which in Korea only Hallasan shares. Admission is included. The climb is yours to choose: the trail is 0.8 km one way with about 140 m of ascent, on wide stone and timber steps that run one way up and another down, so nobody has to squeeze past anybody. Take it at your own pace within the stop. From the rim the view runs over the crater bowl and across the water to Udo island. If you would rather stay low, the base and the shoreline are open, with the crater wall standing over you. On the first Monday of the month the summit trail is closed. The tour then splits the time — about 30 minutes here and 30 minutes at Seopjikoji, the cape to the south.

04
Traditional Market — Lunch Stop · 60 min
Dongmun Market is lunch, and it comes last on the Jeju Port route because it sits only a few minutes from the terminal — an unhurried hour before the short drive back to the ship. It is Jeju's largest traditional market, formed right after liberation in 1945, and now covers about 22,727 m² with some 364 shops divided into sections, each with its own numbered gate. Local reports put the traffic at more than twenty thousand people on an ordinary day. The lanes are covered, so rain makes little difference to the hour, and the market runs from 07:00 into the evening every day of the year, public holidays included. What the island is known for is all here: tangerines and hallabong, black pork as skewers, dumplings and buns, live fish and sashimi counters, omegi tteok rice cakes, and a long run of street-food stalls. Prices are marked and the stalls move quickly; cash in won is faster than a card at the smaller ones. Lunch is at your own expense. There is no set restaurant and no fixed menu, so the hour is yours — a sit-down meal, something eaten standing up, fruit to take back aboard, or souvenirs.
Stop order and time at each place can change with docking, traffic, weather and site access. No exact stop-by-stop clock is promised.
